Xbox 360 Demos

Post by PristineSteam » Mon Apr 10, 2006 10:47 am

Last night I played the demo for Tomb Raider: Legend, and I kind of liked it. Obviously it is the best-looking Tomb Raider game ever. The controls are good, or at least not as awful as the last few games in the series. Walking, running, jumping and climbing all work well, though there is one puzzle where you have to jump off a vertical chain, and this is kind of hard to line up.

The outdoor enviroments look good. I especially liked the rushing water in the canyon. The gameplay feels true to the original Tomb Raider. In some ways the higher level of detail can make some of the elements feel more artificial, especially during the climbing puzzles. I find that with the older games with less detail, I don't tend to question the environment as much, but with the heightened realism I stop and ask myself, "why is this pole / vine / rock right here?"

We'll probably discuss this game on an upcoming episode, so if you have played it and have thoughts about it, post them here.
